jpnn.com – JAKARTA – Manchester United lost 1-2 to Brighton & Hove Albion in the second week of the 2024/2025 Premier League at the AMEX Stadium, Saturday (24/8). MU coach Erik Ten Hag admitted that he was very disappointed because his team failed to get any points at all.
“I’m disappointed because we should have at least drawn. We should have won, but in the end you don’t get the points and that’s disappointing because things could have been very different,” Erik Ten Hag told the club’s official website, as quoted on Sunday.
Danny Welbeck opened the scoring for Brighton in the 32nd minute after latching onto a pass from Kaoru Mitoma. United, who made several changes in the second half, equalized in the 60th minute through Amad Diallo.
The score looked set to end at 1-1, but Joao Pedro’s goal in the 90+5th minute saw United return home from the away game with no points.
As an evaluation, Ten Hag assessed that his team conceded too many easy goals. According to the Dutch coach, both goals should have been avoided.
“We conceded two unnecessary goals, completely avoidable. That’s the feeling, we conceded two soft goals where we have to act better as a team,” he added.
The Red Devils actually turned the score around to 2-1 in the 72nd minute. However, the goal scored by Alejandro Garnacho was disallowed because it hit Joshua Zirkzee who was offside.
“It was touched by Zirkzee so it’s a shame, you have to accept this, it’s disappointing, but I can take a lot of positives from his performance,” said Ten Hag.
