Architect Sumit Devulkar, who hails from Malwan in Maharashtra, decided to contribute to the tourism of his city in a unique and sustainable way and built Vihara Homestay. While staying in a home made from natural materials, the guests can also get to know the local culture.

Hailing from Maharashtra, Sumit Devulkar is an Architect by profession; Another special thing about him is that he believes in environmental protection, organic food and sustainable lifestyle. This is the reason why he is interested in natural architecture instead of making simple cement buildings.

Combining his art and principles, he has built the Vihara Ecoste, which is located in Malvan, Maharashtra.

After retirement, Sumit’s parents started organic farming on their two acres of ancestral land. After some time, in the year 2021, Sumit along with his brother Omkar Devulkar also made an eco friendly homestay here, and named it- Vihara Ecostay! Vihara Organic Farm

The Devulkar family built this house in a completely natural way to give tourists visiting the area a natural stay experience. Being made of natural materials like clay, lime, jaggery, turmeric, cow dung, this homestay is naturally cooler than the outside temperature in summers and warm in winters.

Vihara Ecoste is peace of mind and a treat for the eyes

Along with many other features, the beauty here is also worth seeing. Vihara Farmstay has two rooms made for the guests to stay, in front of which there is a beautiful green garden. And a beautiful view of the mountains can also be seen from the window. Apart from this, it also has facilities for breakfast area, seating area and a working room.

On the roof there is a desi thatch made of bamboo and straw; And the furniture kept inside the house like table and bed etc. are also made of these things.

Here is the taste of organically grown pure food

Local varieties of fruits and vegetables are grown organically in the farm here and fresh and chemical-free food is served to the guests in the morning and evening.

Adopting sustainability, a biogas plant has been set up at Vihara Farm. And solar power is also used here for electricity. Speaking to The Better India, Sumit explains, “We aim to use solar power to meet 100% of our electricity needs in a few years. We are working for it.

There is also a provision for rain water harvesting system in his farmstay. Here rain water is collected in a pond and reused for irrigation of trees and plants and for other purposes.

Vihara Eco Stay is completely promoting sustainable lifestyle and eco-tourism. Apart from staying in this beautiful and sustainable mud house, one can also visit an organic farm, taste fresh and wholesome food and spend leisure time amidst natural beauty. What else do you need for a holiday?
