Muftan wins membership in the Executive Office of the Olympic Council of Asia and Chairman of the International Relations Committee

The General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia, during its electoral meeting held today in the Indian capital, New Delhi, elected the President of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, Aqeel Muftan, as a member of the Executive Office of the Olympic Council of Asia and Chairman of its International Relations Committee for the current Olympic electoral cycle 2024-2028.

The Secretary-General of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, Haitham Abdul Hamid, said in a statement received by the (INA), today, Sunday: “The General Assembly also elected today the Indian Rambir Singh as President of the Olympic Council of Asia for the current session 2024-2028.”

Abdul Hamid added that “the election of Muftan to two senior Asian Olympic positions came to maintain the momentum of Iraqi Olympic relations abroad with the Arab and regional surroundings, and to extend that to the Asian space and his keenness to deal objectively with the visions and directions of the Asian Olympic Council and the International Olympic Committee in addition to the exceptional renaissance that he achieved in record time during his work as President of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee.”

For his part, the head of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, Dr. Aqeel Muftan, said: “His victory is an honor to the Iraqi national Olympic scene and to all his colleagues in the Iraqi Olympic Executive Office and its General Assembly, and an added trust to his Olympic responsibilities towards Iraq and all sports in the largest continents of the world.”
