jpnn.comYOGYAKARTA – The Central Board (PP) of Muhammadiyah followed in the footsteps of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in accepting the offer of a mining business permit (IUP).

The decision was announced after PP Muhammadiyah held a National Consolidation at Aisyiyah University Yogyakarta on July 27-28, 2024.

Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir said that managing mines was something new for his organization.

However, he ensured that Muhammadiyah would not hesitate to learn.

“We have many cadres working in mining, mining practitioners, besides that we have mining experts,” said Haedar, Sunday (28/7).

The 66-year-old man emphasized that his party was ready to return the IUP if the mine later had more negative impacts.

“If we ultimately find that the mining management has more disadvantages, meaning that it has many disadvantages for the social and environmental environment and various other aspects, Muhammadiyah also agrees to return the IUP,” he said.

According to him, the results of Muhammadiyah’s efforts will be returned in the form of community empowerment programs, such as building schools and hospitals in the most remote areas. (mcr25/jpnn)
