Mullaiperiyaru Dam- Dinamani reached 142 feet for the 4th time

Pillar: The water level of Mullaiperiyaru dam reached 142 feet on Tuesday morning.

The water level at the Mullaiperiyaru dam on Tuesday was 142 feet (total height 152 feet), the water reserve at the dam was 7,666 million cubic feet, the inflow into the dam was 2,710 cubic feet per second and the discharge was 2,300 cubic feet per second.

As the water level of the dam reached 142 feet at 3.55 am on Tuesday, Thekkady Public Works Department Water Resources Assistant Engineer P. Rajagopal issued a third and final stage flood warning to the people living along the banks of the Periyar.

The Periyar Dam received 12.2 mm of rainfall and 29.4 mm of rainfall.

Increase in water level in Mullai Periyar

Cuddalore in Theni district received heavy rainfall of 56.5 mm since early morning on Tuesday, causing heavy inflow of water in the foothills of the Western Ghats and flooding of wild streams.

As a result, flood waters in the Suruliyaru, Suranganaru and Varataru areas joined the Mullai Periyar, leaving 2,300 cubic feet of water already open from the dam in the Mullai Periyar, with additional water flowing into the Mullai Periyar.

The district revenue department has announced that people living along the banks of the Periyar will be relocated to safer areas.
