Multimillion-dollar compensation in a woman’s claim against Walmart

by time news

As April Jones walked along the aisle between the shelves of a Walmart department store in Florence, North Carolina in June 2015, she stepped on a rusty nail on the floor that went through her sandal and sank into her foot.

The subsequent six years after this incident became a real nightmare for the woman. As a result of infection and the development of gangrene, she had to amputate her limbs several times, as a result of which she lost most of her right leg and is now forced to move in a wheelchair. The other day, a trial was held on the claim of the victim to the store, where the jury, after consulting for only two hours, awarded Jones compensation in the amount of $ 10 million.

However, this verdict naturally does not suit the administration of the retail giant. “We do not believe that the verdict is supported by the evidence and that the injuries sustained by the plaintiff are the result of the incident she described in the lawsuit,” said a spokesman for the network.

Jones filed a lawsuit against the store in 2017. It says that despite the fact that the hospital disinfected her wound and injected tetanus serum and antibiotics, she first removed her toes and then her leg above the knee. After the operation, she spent almost a month in the hospital.

Jones’ attorneys said the compensation will go to pay for medical expenses, purchase a prosthesis, and remodel her home to make it more wheelchair accessible.
