Multiple cases of monkey pox in region

The monkeypox virus has now also reached the Noord-Holland Noord region. At GGD Hollands Noorden, ‘fewer than ten patients’ are currently in the picture.

“We see that it is relatively quiet in our region, but infections are still being added,” the GGD emphasizes in a statement. The speed at which the monkeypox virus is spreading in the Netherlands is increasing. Figures from the RIVM show that the virus was detected in 352 Dutch people until 4 July. Compared to June 30, that is 64 new cases.

Monkeypox is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact and causes a rash in the form of blisters and sores. “If someone tests positive, we start with a source and contact investigation. It is important that we know where the infection took place and with whom those people have had contact. We want to get a clear picture of the course of monkeypox.”

Symptoms of the virus include headache, fever, muscle aches and fatigue. Anyone who thinks they have the monkey pox virus is advised to contact their doctor.
