The VIII edition of Nordic Tales arrives in Campania on 18 September in Paestumthe itinerant initiative of Nordic walking to spend a day in contact with nature, in the name of well-being, for the benefit of people with multiple sclerosis, family members and caregivers. The walks in the open air want to raise awareness on the importance of sport as a valid ally in the treatment of this neurodegenerative pathology which in Campania alone affects over 12,000 people.

The initiative, promoted by Sanofi with the patronage of Aism (Italian Multiple Sclerosis Association) and carried out in collaboration with the Italian School of Nordic Walking, is organized locally by the neurology unit of the Maria SS hospital. Addolorata Eboli, reads a note released by the pharmaceutical company.

“With over 12,000 cases and about 335 new diagnoses estimated each year, Campania is the third region in our country in terms of prevalence and incidence of multiple sclerosis (Sm), after Lombardy and Lazio. This is an important fact that pushes us to do more and more for the people who are affected by it, in our area and beyond. Initiatives such as these allow us, in fact, to effectively understand the real benefits of physical activity in the treatment path of this pathology “, says Vincenzo Busillo, head of the neurology and neurophysiopathology unit, center for the study of multiple sclerosis, Maria SS. Sorrows Eboli.

“Sports practice – continues the specialist – if carried out continuously and for a long period, can help put a stop to the disease. An ever increasing number of research shows us how sports practice reduces neurodegeneration and can be effective in stimulating neuroplasticity, thanks to the improvement of the nervous system functionality associated with exercise. However, it is advisable to evaluate your condition together with the specialist, so as to identify the most suitable training, methods and times. All this highlights in an increasingly relevant way – adds Busillo – that multiple sclerosis, like most neurodegenerative and disabling diseases, must be faced and managed through a global take-over between various specialists and services present not only at the hospital, but also on the territory with the active involvement of public and private agencies that allow the patient to be integrated into the relational and productive context of his own social dimension “.

The novelty of this year – specifies the note – consists of the photographic shots to be taken inside thethe photographer’s eye‘, a corner intended to stimulate the creativity of the participants by learning photographic techniques in a landscape context. Therefore, mental well-being is added to physical well-being a 360-degree psychophysical well-being of the patient. The initiative, in fact, is part of the wider project ‘I’m on the move. Together to train body and mind‘, an invitation not to stop, undermining the attitude of resignation in the face of the chronicity of the disease. From simple walking to dancing, from yoga to pilates to those activities that activate and train our brain such as, for example, photography, caviardage, gardening and digital communication.

“The eighth edition of Nordic Tales confirms that, once again, we are alongside people with multiple sclerosis with the aim of improving well-being and guaranteeing them the possibility of realizing their life project, so that no one is left alone, but supported by qualified responses and concrete help ”, he declares Rosalba Savastano, president of the provincial section of Aism of Salerno. “Occasions like these – he continues – in addition to guaranteeing well-being and fun thanks to contact with nature and sharing one’s free time with others, in fact allow us to inform and explain relevant issues such as those concerning health with simplicity. We are proud to host an initiative such as Nordic Tales in our area, in which patients become the undisputed protagonists, confirming our historic commitment to support people called to live with this impacting disease “.

For those arriving from Eboli it is possible to take advantage of a dedicated shuttle service that will leave at 8.30 am from the car park in front of the ‘Le Bolle’ center (Località Serracapilli, Eboli) to the archaeological park.
