Multiple Teens Escape from Abraxas Academy in Pennsylvania after Riot: Updates and Search Underway

by time news

Multiple teens escaped from the Abraxas Academy in Morgantown, Pennsylvania, after a riot on Sunday, according to police. The incident took place at the juvenile detention center, where nine teenagers managed to flee. State and local law enforcement quickly responded to the situation and regained control of the facility.

Law enforcement agencies have established a perimeter around the detention center and are actively searching for the escaped offenders. The Pennsylvania State Police troop in Reading has urged the public to immediately call 911 if they encounter any of the escaped teens. The Caernarvon Township Police Department described the teenagers as potentially wearing gray or white shirts, with gray pants or shorts.

Collaborative efforts are underway between state police and local authorities to resolve the matter and safely apprehend the escapees. This incident comes just days after a murder convict, Danilo Cavalcante, was captured in South Coventry Township, approximately 15 miles away from the Abraxas Academy, following nearly two weeks on the run.

The Abraxas Academy is a secure residential treatment program that caters to delinquent male youth aged 14 to 18 in 9th grade or above. The facility offers specialized care for those who exhibit consistent delinquent patterns, serious charges, and problematic behaviors. It serves as a placement option for youth with a history of habitual offending behaviors or sexual offending behavior.

CNN has reached out to both the Abraxas Academy and the Berks County District Attorney’s Office for comment on the incident.

The authorities continue to prioritize the safe capture and return of the escaped teens to ensure the security of the community and the wellbeing of the individuals involved.
