The Bavarian Film Prize will be awarded in around ten days. But Michael Bully Herbig is already being honored as a multi-talent – with the honorary award of the Bavarian Prime Minister.

The actor and director Michael Bully Herbig will receive the Prime Minister’s Prize at this year’s Bavarian Film Awards. Herbig is an “imaginative all-rounder” and “a master of his trade who does not rest on his laurels,” explained Markus Söder (CSU) on Tuesday. “He’s always looking for unusual topics and new challenges.” With nine directing works so far, which have attracted more than 33 million people to the cinemas, Herbig is one of the “most successful German film directors of all time”.

The 55-year-old, who was born in Munich, acts, writes screenplays, produces and directs. His best-known works include the TV show “Bullyparade”, comedies such as “Der Schuh des Manitou” and “(T)Raumschiff Surprise” or the children’s film “Wickie and the strong men”. Recently, Herbig has also made more serious films, such as the GDR escape story “Ballon” and the media satire “A Thousand Lines”.

The Bavarian Film Prize will be awarded on June 16 at a gala in Munich’s Prinzregententheater. In recent years, the Prime Minister’s Prize has gone to Sönke Wortmann, Martina Gedeck, Heiner Lauterbach and Roland Emmerich. (dpa)
