Mumbai: Mumbai Indians have retained Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav ahead of the IPL 2022 mega star auction. Later, youngster Ishan Kishan was also brought in for Rs 15.25 crore at auction. But Mumbai could not keep up with New Zealand pacer Trent Bolt, who played a key role in leading Mumbai to the title in 2020. Former India captain Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has said that Bolt was retained in the team.
He is of the opinion that Bolt was a good partner for Bumrah. As Rajkumar explains … ” There is no doubt that Mumbai will miss Bolt in the 15th season. The Bumrah-Bolt duo have beaten Mumbai in several matches. Yet they could not keep the bolt or bring it back. I also thought it would bring Bolt back. But that did not happen. Mumbai made a mistake in this regard, ”he said.
Though Bolt is gone, Mumbai have three left-handed pacers. Jaidev Unadkat, Thaimal Mills and Daniel Sams are the left-handed players in the team. Rajkumar said that Jaidev will find a place in the team. “Jaidev was a little expensive. But his experience will benefit the team. I think the Saurashtra player will put out a good performance. It is enough to see other left-armers as backup bowlers, ”he explained.
He added that Kieran Pollard would be more responsible in the midfield. “The absence of the Pandya brothers will increase Pollard’s responsibility. Moreover, the shortage of all-rounders will plague Mumbai. Pollard is a player who can make a big impact in the midfield, ”he added.
When Mumbai won the title in 2020, Bolt took 25 wickets in 15 matches. Man of the match in the final against Delhi Capitals, taking three wickets. He took 13 wickets in 14 matches last season.
