Mumbai : BMC will cement the service roads leading to Eastern Express and Western Express Highway. This will greatly facilitate people reaching both the expressways from different parts of Mumbai by vehicles. Also, the slip roads and junctions of the highway will also be cemented. BMC will spend a total of Rs 1600 crore on this. This work will be completed within 3 years. At the same time, the concerned contractor will repair and maintain it for the next 10 years. An official of the BMC Road Department said that citizens had been complaining about this for a long time. People said that it was very difficult to reach both the expressways from different parts of Mumbai through the service road. Therefore, the service roads on both sides of both the expressways will be cemented. With the service road being cemented, people will be able to reach the Eastern and Western Expressways easily.

Connects Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Bhandup and Mulund

Eastern and Western Express Highway is an important route for those traveling in Mumbai. The 23.55 km long Eastern Express Highway passes through the eastern suburbs. This express highway starts from Sion in Mumbai and connects Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Bhandup and Mulund. This highway is also connected to Sion-Panvel Express Highway and Santacruz, Chembur Road Eastern Free-way. On the other hand, Western Express Highway connects the western suburbs of Mumbai. The length of this express highway is about 24 km. This express starts from Mahim and connects Dahisar via Bandra, Andheri, Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali. This express highway is one of the busiest routes of Mumbai.

Slip roads and junctions will also be cemented

To connect both the expressways, BMC will cement the service road as well as the slip road (the part under the bridges on the highway). According to the official, the road on the highway often gets damaged under the bridge. Cementing will solve this problem. Also, asphalt has been used at the junctions on the highway, due to which there is a fear of vehicles slipping. Therefore, BMC has decided to cement the junctions of both the highways.

Let us tell you that the work of cementing 2050 km long roads in Mumbai is in progress. BMC repairs the Eastern and Western Express Highways from time to time. MMRDA handed over both the express highways to BMC for repair and maintenance two years ago.

Why is BMC focusing on service roads?

BMC has to face a lot of criticism for the potholes on the roads in Mumbai. While the condition of service roads is even worse. Hundreds of service roads connect the Eastern and Western Express Highways. BMC often has to hear complaints due to their bad condition. BMC has been ignoring such service roads till now. Now BMC has found a solution to this. Like the roads of Mumbai, the service roads connecting the expressway will also be cemented. With this, most of the service roads will also be cemented along with the roads of Mumbai.
