MUMBAI: The stock market index rose as much as 0.4% in the afternoon after a one per cent decline since the opening of trade. The BSE Sensex rose 278 points to 71,833 points. Out of 30 companies in the Sensex index, 20 companies traded higher. The national stock market index Nifty rose 97 points to close at 21,840 points.
