Many people have heard about mummies in Egypt. Mummies are dead bodies preserved with chemicals in the belief that there is a second life beyond death. Sometimes mummies form naturally. Mummies are corpses buried in mineral-rich soil. Experts are warning that the second type of mummies may affect people’s health.

This has been warned by the professors of the National Institute of Anthropology and History in Mexico. According to the Daily Star, fungal infections in mummies are dangerous for visitors. Some mummies have hair, skin and clothing. Researchers also say that some are infected with fungus. The federal institute had also come out against the government’s decision to display six mummies in a glass casing at a tourism fair in Mexico City.

The researchers concluded that there are health risks if the glass cases are not ensured to be airtight and that displaying them without adequate awareness or protection of the public is a concern. “Some of the mummies we examined in November 2021 showed signs of widespread fungal infection,” the researchers added.

Researchers at the institute also requested that the mummies be allowed to be studied more carefully. The researchers said that the safety of those who handle them and those who come to see them should be ensured. The history of mummies dates back to the 1860s. Families who did not have enough money to bury their dead bodies buried them in public graves. Mummies were first discovered here.

Last year, signs of cancer were also found in the mummy of a pregnant woman in Egypt. This discovery was made by a group of scientists in Poland. The scientific world speculates that the cause of death of this woman was nasal cancer. Researchers from the Warsaw Mummy Project in Poland were scanning the skull of this ancient corpse. Suddenly, some marks could be seen on its bones.

These signs were similar to those seen in patients with nasal cancer. Known as the ‘mysterious woman’, researchers speculate that this ancient Egyptian may have died of cancer. Nasopharyngeal cancer mainly affects the parts of the throat that connect the back of the nose to the back of the mouth. Experts say that normal mummies do not have such marks.
