Authorities in the northern emirates have warned people not to buy food from street vendors. The municipalities of Ajman, Sharjah and Fujairah are cracking down on street vendors. Strict punishment will be enforced, including deportation of those who violate the directive. Sharjah Municipality Director General Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji said such activities would not be allowed during the holy month of Ramadan.

Sharjah’s Daid Municipality has also appointed special officers to track down street vendors. The Ajman Municipality Health Department said in a statement that the street food trade was banned. Dibba Fujairah Municipality Director Hassan al-Yamahi also said in a statement that he would take “severe action”.

The sale of food without adequate hygiene in the areas where the workers live is increasing exponentially. Many workers buy it because the food is cheaper than in restaurants.
