Practical issues, which will help to improve the operational planning during the fire fighting season, as well as the data generated by the implementation of the new institutional framework for civil protection, were examined during the meeting of the Civil Protection Coordinating Body of the Municipality of Zitsa in the morning of M. Tuesday.


At the meeting, which took place in the hall of the municipal council in Eleussa, the members of the Coordinating Committee developed proposals for better cooperation between them, in order to achieve the desired result, which is to deal with fire incidents as they arise.
In his statement, the mayor Michalis Pliakos referred to the effort made by the Municipality, with minimal staff at its disposal and a substandard Civil Protection service, to carry out preventive cleaning works and at the same time, when deemed necessary, to assist in the work of the fire services. “Many responsibilities have been transferred to the Municipalities without staff and resources with time-consuming prescribed procedures. We have equipment-machines and we don’t have personnel”, he underlined, pointing out that the Municipality of Zitsa, as far as possible, is always present with updated plans, hoping that they don’t have to activate them.
In closing, he characterized the cooperation of all involved services as self-evident and given, since, as he typically stated, “the goal and purpose is common to all”, and asked for the assistance and awareness of the citizens, calling on them to help in the unequal “battle”. , given by the services for cleaning plots of land from grasses, keeping their properties clean and deforested.
For her part, the deputy head of Civil Protection P.E. Lamprini Melissova of Ioannina emphasized that “immediate cooperation and help from the Region is a given” and asked everyone for increased attention and vigilance on the days that are considered to be of increased risk, while also referring to the cases of activation of 112.
The deputy head of Civil Protection of the Decentralized Administration of Epirus – West characterized the evacuation plans, which the Municipalities should have ready, as important. of Macedonia Dimitra Spyrou, while the high level of preparedness of the services and agencies they represent were emphasized in their positions by the commander of the 2nd Fire Station of Ioannina, deputy fire chief Vassilios Pavlou, the deputy commander of the Zitsa Police Department, policeman II Konstantinos Mantzios, the commander of the 8th L.A.P., major Alexandros Raptis, the forester of the Forestry Department of Ioannina Vasilios Stavrou and the representatives of the administration of the Regional Department of the Hellenic Red Cross Euthymios Kontogiorgos and Konstantinos Gerodimos.
Closing the meeting, the Deputy Mayor for Civil Protection of the Municipality of Zitsa, Alcibiadis Votsikas, in his turn pointed out the importance of the kind cooperation of all involved entities, as well as the readiness of the Municipality’s services.
The meeting was also attended by the municipal councilors Periklis Grivas and Manthos Pappas, and the deputy commander of the 2nd Fire Station of Ioannina Sotiris Lychnos.
