One of the brightest Russian boxers, Murat Gassiev, confidently won his second heavyweight fight. He won the victory over the German Michael Wallisch ahead of schedule: the Moscow match was stopped after the fourth round.
This was the second performance of Murat Gassiev, one of the brightest athletes of the new generation in Russian boxing, in the heavyweight category. The 27-year-old boxer gained fame when, in 2016, being very young, he unexpectedly defeated compatriot Denis Lebedev in the champion fight in the first heavy weight (up to 90.7 kg). Then Gassiev was selected to perform in the large-scale World Boxing Super Series project, which brought together the strongest representatives of the category. He reached the final, but in the decisive battle he lost on points to the Ukrainian Alexander Usik, who was later recognized as the best fighter of 2018, regardless of the weight category. And this defeat remains the only one in his career with 28 victories.
Later, Murat Gassiev decided to move from the first heavyweight to the heavyweight, more profitable from a financial point of view. Alexander Usik took the same step. Moreover, the Ukrainian has already won the right to take part in a battle that causes enormous excitement. In it, in September, he will confront the unofficial king of the heavyweight British Anthony Joshua, who owns the champion belts of the World Boxing Association (WBA), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO).
As for Murat Gassiev, he had difficulties with the debut due to the injuries that followed the Russian.
They thwarted several already agreed fights with his participation. As a result, the break in Gassiev’s career lasted for more than two years. Murat Gassiev returned to the ring last October. In Sochi, he easily knocked out the Albanian Nuri Seferi. The fight with Seferi, who soon after turned 44 years old and who, having lost, immediately announced that he was leaving the sport, ended in the first round.
It was originally planned that in Moscow Murat Gassiev would meet with German veteran Ercan Teper, but he could not fly to Russia due to a positive test for coronavirus from one of his relatives. Now he managed to quickly find a replacement in the person of his compatriot, also experienced, but without noticeable career achievements, Michael Wallisch.
The fight turned out to be rather boring.
Murat Gassiev fought very carefully, he did not force events.
In the third round, for the first time, he properly checked Wallisha’s fortress with a right hand, and in the fourth, in the same way, he sent him to the flooring in the corner of the ring. The knockdown was pretty deep. Wallisch after him managed to get to his feet, but before the gong came under fire, and the referee stopped the fight.
