Murder of Father Olivier Maire in Vendée: the suspect indicted

Emmanuel Abayisenga had been hospitalized in a psychiatric environment since August 2021 and his confession: this Rwandan national, suspected of being the arsonist of Nantes Cathedral, admitted to having murdered Father Olivier Maire on August 8, 2021 in Saint-Laurent -sur-Sèvre (Vendée). He was indicted and imprisoned, indicates this Friday the parquet floor of La Roche-sur-Yon, quoted by France Bleu.

“In accordance with the requisitions of the prosecution, he was placed in pre-trial detention after an adversarial debate before the judge of freedoms and detention of the judicial court of La Roche-sur-Yon on October 26”, writes the prosecution in a statement.

Emmanuel Abayisenga, 40, had denounced himself to the gendarmes of Mortagne-sur-Sèvre who then found the lifeless body of the clergyman in Saint-Laurent-sur-Sèvre, about fifteen kilometers from Cholet.

According to his first statements, the suspect would not explain his gesture, but admitted the facts.

The victim, Olivier Maire, a 60-year-old priest, was a member of the Montfortains religious community in Saint-Laurent-sur-Sèvre and had been hosting the alleged perpetrator of his assassination for several months, who was then placed under judicial supervision.
