Giacomo Bozzoli has always said that he is innocent: “No arguments”

Forty years old this July 20, Giacomo Bozzoli worked in the family foundry in Macheno, in Val Trompia. According to the judges’ reconstruction, he would throw his uncle into the company’s largest oven which locked at 7.20pm on 8 October 2015 after anomalous white smoke. What is certain is that Mario Bozzoli, the victim, did not leave the company that evening. The accused, charged with voluntary aggravated manslaughter and destruction of a corpse, has always maintained his innocence. At the opening of the trial before the Court of Assize of Brescia, in December 2021, Bozzoli made some spontaneous statements: “Before starting I want to say that I will tell the whole truth because I am innocent”, his word. “I’ll tell the whole truth. Everyone says that my uncle and I didn’t have a good relationship, but who knows why no one saw us arguing.” No precautionary measure was ever issued against him, because as it was a circumstantial trial there was no risk of tampering with the evidence nor did the judges recognize the risk of escape.
