Today, Monday, the murder trial of three Latvians starts in Linz Regional Court, who allegedly knocked down a fellow countryman in a hotel room in September of the previous year and then set the room on fire. The 50-year-old died a few days later. The quartet should have originally come to Linz to commit check fraud. Apparently there was an argument within the group that ended in the death of a man.
The three 52, 50 and 48 year old defendants are charged with murder, grievous bodily harm and arson. If convicted, they face up to 20 years or life imprisonment. The three had a criminal record at home and in other European countries, one also for murder, the public prosecutor said. The trial is scheduled for three days.
