Adam Howe, 34, was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, where he was pronounced dead on Sunday.
“Adam Howe wiped his airways with wet toilet paper and suffered a medical emergency,” the statement said.
“Out of respect for the family, we have no further comment or detail. This family has been through a lot this weekend. Please keep them in your prayers.” Police and firefighters found the remains of 69-year-old Susan Howe, still burning, on the grass in her front yard on Friday at 9:30 p.m.
After Adam Howe barricaded himself inside his home, the team ofSWAT The Cape Cod Regional pulled him out by force and took him into custody, authorities said. He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and medical officials confirmed he could return to custody, authorities said.

He was transferred on Saturday afternoon to a detention center, where he was put on security duty and visually checked every 15 minutes. Adam Howe was also wearing a tear-resistant nylon smock for his safety. Despite the precautions, he blocked his airway with wet toilet paper.
