Muscat: Playback singer KS Chitra has been awarded this year’s Muscat Indian Social Club Cultural Award. The award consists of two lakh Indian rupees and a sculpture. Muscat Indian Social Club Malayalam Section Convener P. The award was announced by the governing body headed by Sreekumar.
Convener P. Sreekumar said that he was selected for the award in recognition of his contributions to the music sector. Convener Sreekumar will present the cultural award to KS Chitra in a ceremony to be held at the Al Felaj Le Grand Auditorium on Friday, September 23, as part of this year’s Onam celebrations of the Malayalam section.
The Indian Ambassador Amit Narang will be the chief guest at the cultural gathering to be held in conjunction with the award ceremony. Babu Rajendran, General Secretary of the Muscat Indian Social Club will also participate. As part of the Onam celebrations, the Malayalam category has been giving the Kala Samskarika Award continuously since 1996 to the unique talents who have shown excellent work in the field of arts and culture.

Actors Siddique, Mukesh, Lalu Alex, Seema, Sheela, Padmasree Sukumari, Srinivasan, director Blessy, Shyama Prasad, Manoj.K Jayan, Devan and Lal are the recipients of the Malayalam Category Arts and Culture Award in previous years. Muscat Indian Social Club Malayalam section is a recognized Malayalam arts and culture organization in Oman with the registration of Oman Ministry of Culture.

The festivities will begin on Friday, September 23 at 6 pm. This year, the Malayalam section has also organized an Onasadhya for more than 2,000 invited guests on Saturday, September 24. The Onasadya is being prepared under the leadership of Sudhir and Surendran, who are famous for Valluvanadan Sadya.
Musical fusion performed by the renowned Pullamkuzhal expert Mr. Rajesh Cherthala and his team, Chenda Melam performed by Melam Muscat and dances performed by members of the Malayalam section will be staged as part of the celebrations. Convener P Sreekumar, Co-Convenor Lekha Vinod and Treasurer Ajitkumar Menon announced in a joint press release that after two years, the Malayalam Section is welcoming everyone to the cultural function and Onagoshama program organized extensively.
