Legislation implementing the Law on Protected Areas adopted by the Seimas last December was adopted on Wednesday. The new procedure has been in effect since July 1 of this year.
Picking berries and mushrooms in protected areas is allowed only to those people who have declared their place of residence in a village or hermitage bordering the reserve, and if their visit does not harm the reserve’s ecosystems and protected values.
Collecting natural goods in this way is prohibited in Buktbalės and Liūliškinės of the Žuvintas biosphere reserve, Naglii and Grobštės nature reserves of the Curonian Spit national park, as well as in the Kalnai nature reserve of the Pavilniai regional park, Girutiškis and Kiauneliškis nature reserves of the Labanoris regional park.
It is forbidden to visit many reserves without the accompaniment of specialists from their directorates – for educational purposes, you can walk only in those territories where educational trails have been installed, and for scientific research purposes, only specialists whose field of work or study is related to environmental research are allowed to visit.
In addition, reserves and sanctuaries must establish in their regulations that it is allowed to build power plants with a power of up to 10 kilowatts (kW) on the plots of land of homesteads located in their territories.
New requirements for the construction of sheds where residents keep herbivorous animals have also been established – a shed can be built on an area of at least 5 hectares (ha) of meadows and pastures, and in Pavilnii and Verkių regional parks – on at least 1 ha (there are no large areas of meadows here). .
The height of the shed built in national and regional parks cannot exceed 6 meters, the permissible width-to-length ratio of the shed is 1:2-3, and the shed itself cannot occupy more than 150 square meters. meters area. Roofs can be single-gabled, double-gabled or four-gabled.
According to the new rules, the name of the Plaze nature reserve is changed to the Plotio reserve, and the flying of drones, hot air balloons and paragliders over the reserves and reserves located in the Metelii, Nemunas delta and Varnii regional parks is also restricted.
