A native of Andhra Pradesh, Vidyasagar was born into a classical music family. Having studied music formally, he used to visit recording studios with his father. He knows how to play vibraphone, piano, guitar, keyboard and harmonium and has experience working with various Indian composers including MSV and Ilayaraja since the age of 14. He was not only a musician but also a music conductor.

He made his debut as a music composer in Tamil cinema in 1989 with the film ‘Boomanam’. However, it was the movie ‘Jaihind’ released in 1994 that brought him the biggest name. The actor who emerged after that composed music for many songs including Arjun’s Karna, Sengottai, Ayudha Pujai, Subhash, Taiin Manikodi. Although the songs were good, there was no consistent success in Tamil. In this context, he is getting busy in Malayalam and Telugu, where his music has become a hit.
