Musicians are moving from Rabindra Sarobar to Shaheed Minar in support of the anti-discrimination student movement.

The program has been organized under the banner ‘Getup, Standup’ at Rabindra Sarovar in Dhanmondi at 3 pm on Saturday. However, at the same time, the central coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement called upon all the protestors to gather at the central Shaheed Minar. For this reason, the musicians gathered at Rabindra Sarovar to show solidarity and then marched towards Shaheed Minar.

Prabar Ripon, team leader of ‘Sonar Bangla Circus’ band, wrote in a Facebook post, ‘Our ‘getup, standup’ program at Rabindra Sarovar is scheduled two days ago. After informing everyone to come here, we came to know about the program of Shaheed Minar of the students. For this reason, we will all gather at Rabindra Sarovar and go to Shaheed Minar to show solidarity with the students.’

Requesting not to spread confusion, he also wrote, ‘We are with the students.’

Many others, including composer Prince Mahmud, have given similar posts. Before this, information about this program was given in a press release sent to the media on Friday evening.

The press release said, ‘We musicians will meet at Rabindra Sarovar (Dhanmondi 8/A) to express solidarity with the students. We will show our support through music. Those who are outside Dhaka, they will show solidarity by standing at appropriate places in their respective districts. May this solidarity with our students be peaceful and songful. We will make banners and festoons with those lines of Bengali songs, which were on the lips of people in different times during agitations and protests. We will all sing these songs together, this is how we will express our protest.’

The notification also said, ‘The presence of all our musicians is important here. When we all stand together, students will feel inspired and empowered that we are on their side. That is our sole purpose. We will express solidarity with all the demands of the students.’
