(ANSA) – NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 23 – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni received the Atlantic Council’s ‘Global Citizen Award 2024’ at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York “for her pioneering role as the first female head of government in Italy, her strong support for the European Union and the transatlantic alliance, and for her presidency of the G7 in 2024”. The prestigious award was presented by the controversial patron of Tesla and X, Elon Musk, whose choice sparked discontent within the think tank and political controversy. The two were sitting next to each other at the same table. The same award was also presented to the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and to the vice president of the South Korean holding company CJ Group, Miky Lee. The awards are presented every year on the sidelines of the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly to international personalities who have distinguished themselves most at a global level. Previous winners of the award include Shimon Peres, Henry Kissinger, Volodymir Zelensky, Christine Lagarde, Rania of Jordan, Mario Draghi and Sundar Pichai. (ANSA).
