A Muslim decided to adopt a pacifying stance in the face of tensions involving a protest held last June in Sweden, when a group of people decided to tear up and burn a Koran, the holy book for Muslims, outside the central mosque in Stockholm.

The group, which did not have a specific religious orientation identified, carried out the disrespectful protest after obtaining permission from the Swedish Police. The act took place precisely during the celebrations of the Feast of Sacrifice, one of the most important commemorations for Muslims.

Faced with what happened, Muslims also decided to protest, this time in front of the Israeli Embassy, also in Sweden. The objective would be to tear up and burn a Bible, in provocation to Jews and Christians.

A man named Ahmad Alush, however, decided to act differently, opposing the burning of the Word of God. “Nobody should do that,” he said, second information from the Israeli newspaper Times of Israel.

The 32-year-old Muslim argued that if he burned the Bible, he would be using his freedom of expression in the wrong way. Instead, he said he thought it best to “show that freedom of expression has limits that must be taken into account”.

Mutual respect

Aware that the burning of the Bible would increase tension between Jews and Muslims, which could lead to various conflicts, Ahmad Alush preached the need for mutual respect between members of the different Muslim, Jewish and Christian religions.

“I want to show that we have to respect each other, we live in the same society. If I burn the Torah, another the Bible, another the Koran, there will be war here. What I wanted to show is that it is not right to do this”, argued the Muslim.

With the pacifying stance of the Muslim, the burning of the Bible did not occur and no other protest of this nature was scheduled until then.
