Muti in Marradi on the day of Dante’s train

by time news

The land of good chestnuts has been in turmoil for weeks. Tomorrow the party will be double: the eighteenth-century theater of the Animosi reopens after the rooms of the Ridotto, intended for young artists, have been renovated, and it does so by inaugurating the version linked to the 700 anniversary of Dante’s death of the Florence-Ravenna train that connects not only ideally the two most evocative cities of Dante’s adventure – the one that saw the poet in swaddling clothes and the one that saw him die – marking the stages of the exile. The guest and artist of excellence on this occasion will be Riccardo Muti who will conduct his Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra for the double event: music by Bach, Verdi and Mozart will be on the program.

That Marradi is in turmoil – the 100 seats available in the theater for the concert at 16.30 have already been booked and even the first 200 to follow the event in the square have flown away, explains Mayor Tommaso Triberti – understandable. Also expected for the occasion is the Minister of Cultural Heritage Dario Franceschini who will board the train in Florence around 3 pm, more or less when the doors of the renovated theater will open in Marradi, with the mayor Dario Nardella and the President of the Region Eugenio Giani and then he will attend the concert during which the soprano Rosa Feola will interpret Verdi’s Ave Maria from Otello, Elena Bucci reading Dante and Dino Campana – who was born in Marradi – and Muti will conduct his young orchestra in the Aria from the Suite for orchestra n. 3 in D major BWV 1068 and in Divertimento for strings n. 1 in D major K. 136 by Mozart.

The bond between Marradi and Dante has to do with a funny legend and the mayor himself to tell us about it: It is said that the poet, in exile, went around Romagna on the back of a mule. It seems that the beast would have been stolen from him. And the incident would have unnerved him to such an extent that, when someone from the village objected that there were only gentlemen there, the poet would have replied. S but sparse. From there the toponym of Marradi was born. Legends aside in the program of Dante celebrations, the municipality proposed itself as a protagonist among those of the metropolitan city of Florence – and not surprisingly since Triberti has the delegation for tourism – for the promotion and narration of the anniversary and of the path followed by Dante between 1301, the year of the first sentence of condemnation for baratteria in Florence and 1321, the year of his death. Twenty years of exile that come back overbearing in the triplets of the Comedy almost entirely written far from the beloved and hated city of origin. If after the concert Muti returns to his Ravenna boarding the Dante train, the day in Marradi will continue until the evening: from 8 pm the Ridotto will be open and presented. And at 9.30 pm the external lighting will be switched on. The symbolic value of the event still bounces in the words of the mayor who adds: I make my own the words of Maestro Muti: culture restarts from small villages, from small theaters, from young people. The reopening of a theater in a so-called minor locality is great news. Let him do it with Muti, more.
