Mutua Madrileña suffered a cyber attack on its domestic customer base, through an external provider, which affected thousands of customers but was immediately corrected, as confirmed by the agency. According to the e-mail sent by the company to the affected clients, the insurer detected on September 23 partial access to customer data in the home insurance sector, as a result of an incident suffered by one of its suppliers. Mutua immediately recognized the incident and remedied it through its detection and security protocols.

The incident may affect the personal data provided by clients to manage the home insurance contract, such as identity or contact details. Mutua Madrileña regrets the situation and the inconvenience it may cause to affected customers, which it is proactively informing by email.

In addition, the company informs that it has brought the facts to the attention of the competent authorities, including the Spanish Data Protection Agency.

Thus Mutua joins the long list of large companies that suffered cyber attacks this year, such as Orange, Iberdrola, Repsol, Banco Santander, Endesa, Telefónica, the Spanish subsidiary of the French energy company TotalEnergies, Ayesa, Amper or the company textile Tendam (Cortefiel), among others, and whose objective is to gain access to the data of its customer base or to steal information.

Organizations such as the Armed Forces, the DGT or educational institutions such as Complutense University have also been the target of this type of attack.
