Paralympic weightlifter Rasool Kadhim dedicated the bronze medal he won in the 80kg weight class at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games to the Iraqi people.
Kazem said in a statement to the (INA): “My ambition was higher than obtaining the bronze medal, but I was injured in the first week of our entry into France.”
For his part, the head of the Iraqi Paralympic Committee, Aqil Hamid, told (INA): “The injury of the player Rasool Kadhim since the first week of our arrival had a major impact on his failure to obtain the gold medal, despite competing with (3) players who won the World Championship title in weightlifting in the (80) kg weight category, namely the Chinese, the Iranian and our player Rasool Kadhim. However, the weightlifter Rasool Kadhim achieved the bronze medal, although the numbers achieved were not expected.”
He added, “Injuries usually occur during the competition period, especially in fixing the lifts, but despite that, we achieved good results. There are (4) of our players who achieved fourth place, and we are waiting for the fencing competitions, and we seek to achieve distinctive results.”
He pointed out that “player Najla Imad will play an important match today with a French player in the table tennis competitions, and if she wins she will qualify for the final match. We aspire to achieve a higher achievement than the Tokyo Olympics, which was to obtain three medals. Now in Paris, we have obtained three medals, and we aspire to obtain the fourth medal, although our main goal was to obtain six medals. However, the injury of the players (Ali Mubarak and Fares Saadoun), who suffered a tendon rupture due to psychological and nervous tension and the effort exerted, affected that.”
