A 55-year-old man was killed during the night from Saturday to Sunday in his apartment in Dijon after a shot on the facade of his building. Around half past midnight, individuals traveling in a vehicle fired towards buildings and “a man was fatally injured by one of the shots while he was at his home,” said the public prosecutor. from Dijon Olivier Caracotch, in a message to AFP.

“My father and I, with my mother, were woken up by a succession of gunshots and then it stopped. Then it started again, and when we went to see my father who was sleeping in his bed, he was dead,” said the victim’s daughter, who wished to remain anonymous. The 23-year-old young woman specified that her 24-year-old brother was also in the apartment of this Kosovar family, who arrived in France 14 years ago.

Shooters on the run

According to our information, the shooter used a machine gun, the bullets of which hit the victim while he was sleeping, in the family apartment, on the second floor of the building. Bullet holes were noted on the building, and several shots passed through the windows. The police found around sixty shell casings on the ground.

The police were called to reports of shots fired near a deal point, in the Stalingrad district. The shooters are currently on the run. The Territorial Directorate of the Judicial Police (DTPJ) was contacted, said the prosecutor.

No further details were provided on the victim but “everything suggests that he is a collateral victim,” a police source told AFP. CRS 8, the CRS unit specializing in maintaining order, will be sent to Dijon, assured the Ministry of the Interior.

“It’s a deal point, it’s been like that for a long time,” a neighbor who did not want to give his name told AFP. Another, in his fifties, says: “They’ve been coming here for a long time to get coke, it’s a real business, they’ve been queuing since 10 a.m..”

“There have already been gunshots on the front of the building”

“A few years ago, there were already gunshots on the facade of the building which had already hit our apartment,” explained the victim’s daughter, believing that it was “probably a settling of accounts.” “I would like France to better protect its inhabitants, I want to leave Dijon,” she confided, in shock and in tears.

This drama evokes another, recent one, in Marseille. Last September, the gang war left a collateral victim, a young woman hit by a stray bullet. Socayna, 24, was working in her room in front of her computer, on the third floor of the Saint-Thys city, when she was fatally shot.

In Nîmes, ten-year-old Fayed also lost his life at the end of August, shot in a shooting linked to the drug war in the working-class district of Pissevin. Nine people, including a 17-year-old minor, were indicted in mid-November in this investigation.
