The new chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Khandkar Rashed Maksud said that his first task is to ensure the good governance of the capital market and restore confidence.

Khandkar Rashed Maqsood said, ‘Besides ensuring compliance with the compliances we have. We have come a long way from being compliant over the past decade or so. Now we have to get on the right track. Nothing good can be expected in the market without the return of good governance. Ensuring this good governance should start from our own house first. Then the mediators should be brought in.’

He said all this in an exchange meeting with journalists at the Securities Commission building in Agargaon, capital, on Sunday (August 25) afternoon. BSEC commissioner at this time. ATM Tarikuzzaman, Mohsin Chowdhury and Executive Director Anwarul Isrash were present.

BSEC chairman said, ‘There have been many irregularities in the capital market in the last decade. We cannot remove it very easily. It cannot be done overnight. It is doubtful whether it will be possible in the next 14 months. But if we all set goals and work together, we can get to a satisfying place. Maybe it won’t be easy to get where we want to go now. But we can come closer to our goal.’

He said, ‘For that, everyone has to work properly in accordance with the law. We all need to work to restore confidence in the capital markets. For this, we have fixed the action plan for the coming days.’

“We need to focus on restoring investor confidence in the market,” said miner Rashed Maqsood. But not artificially for a temporary period. Fundamental changes must be brought about. There are good regulations in the capital market. But it was not implemented. Which will be applied from now on.’

He also said, ‘There have been many irregularities and corruption in the last decade. I want to work on them in depth. After investigation, legal action will be taken against the culprits. We want to do it from our own homes (BSEC officials and employees) first. After that, the culprits from other places will be caught. Each job will be investigated on a case-by-case basis. In that case, we will see who is involved in all cases inside and outside. An independent body is necessary to investigate in this case. This we will do.’

Rashed Maqsood said, ‘I came to BSEC with a mission. I will fill it. If I can’t do it, I still don’t have to stay in BSEC.’
