“There is no vacant place yet. Having become the first to cross the line in the elections, I have a mandate, just in case a seat becomes vacant. However, between point A and point B there are still Seimas elections, where I cannot cancel my candidacy from the single-mandate district. My duty is to go all the way in the Seimas elections, and then make a final decision,” said L. Mažylis to Elta.

“My first priority is to perform as successfully as possible in the Seimas elections. I am pushing the final decision away from me, it will come when we see the actual situation,” emphasized the politician who is running in the single-mandate constituency of Savanorių.

The former MEP assures that A. Kubilius should receive support in both the Lithuanian and European parliaments. However, according to him, it is not completely clear when the term of office of the new European Commissioners will begin.

“There is no clearly fixed date when European commissioners finish their hearings and take their oath. According to my calculations, it will be after the second round of Seimas elections. Although everything seems very fast, that time still has to pass”, taught L. Mažylis.

In the EP elections held on June 9, three conservative representatives won the mandate: A. Kubilius, Rasa Juknevičienė and Paulius Saudargas.

L. Mažylis, Minister of Education, Science and Sports Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė, former Minister of National Defense Arvydas Anušauskas, MP Matas Maldeikis are lined up after the elected parliamentarians.

Seimas elections will be held on October 13.

ELTA reminds that last week Gitanas Nausėda signed the decree provided by the Government, by which he approved the nomination of A. Kubilius as a member of the European Commission.
