Ralph Yarla 16-year-old American teenager, received shot in the head and another in arm Thursday night when she was going to pick up her younger siblings and rang the wrong doorbell in Kansas City, Missouri.
Andrew Lester, 84, was charged with assault in the first degree and armed criminal action for shooting Yarl, and a prosecutor in the case maintained there was a “racial component” to his actions, although the charging documents do not describe the alleged racial bias or include hate crimes.
“He took a couple of bullets to his body, instead of the twins coming out and hugging him,” Yarl’s mother, Cleo Nagbe, said in an interview with CBS broadcast on Tuesday.
Recounting the events on Thursday, Nagbe noted that his son had gone to pick up your brothers a A friend’s house around 10:00 p.m. local time when he mistakenly knocked on Lester’s door.
The mother reported that her son was at home and surrounded by a team of medical professionals.

Relatives said 16-year-old Ralph Yarl went to three nearby houses before getting anyone to help him.
Present at Nagbe’s interview was the family’s lawyer, Lee Merritt, who was questioned about Lester’s claim that he “feared for his life”.
“When we heard that he feared for his life and we know that he was confronted by a 16-year-old boy who was ringing his doorbell… it is unjustifiable use this level of force,” Merritt replied.
When asked about next steps, Merritt said the family will speak with prosecutors Tuesday to ask why attempted murder has not been included in the charges.
Nagbe said her son had a pleasant phone conversation with US President Joe Biden on Monday.

Family members said that Yarl mistakenly went to 115th street instead of a the 115 Terraceand that he rang the bell twice.
After being shot, he passed three houses before someone helped him, they added.
According to local media reports, Lester told police that he believed someone was breaking into his home and fired two shots from behind his door.

A witness stated that he heard Yarl “scream that he had been shot.”
Police initially detained Lester for questioning and let him go, sparking protests in Kansas City on Sunday.
No words were exchanged before the owner opened fire with a .32 caliber revolver.the prosecutors said.
Celebrities including Viola Davis, Justin Timberlake, Halle Berry and Kerry Washington, as well as star Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, condemned the attack.
A GoFundMe account created to pay for his medical recovery had raised more than $2.7 million as of Tuesday.
