NEPHIDA: Air strikes by Myanmar’s junta army in northern Shan state have killed 11 people. A spokesman for a rebel group fighting the junta told AFP on Friday that 11 civilians were killed and 11 others were injured in air strikes by the junta in northern Shan state. According to Leway Yayew of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), two areas in Namkham city were bombed on Friday. He said 11 people were killed and 11 were injured in the attacks. These areas are just five kilometers from the border with China’s Yunnan province, where the bombing took place.
According to a Firstpost report, the junta that came to power through a coup is facing widespread armed opposition. Junta soldiers fighting rebel groups have also been accused of violence and air and artillery attacks on civilians. On Friday, the junta has once again been accused of killing 11 civilians, including four women and two children. There has been continuous fighting in this area bordering China’s Yunnan province in recent times. Recently, TNLA fighters also claimed control of the city after several weeks of fighting.

Bombs were also dropped on buildings!

The rebel groups have also accused the junta army of bombing buildings. Some videos have also been shared, showing destroyed buildings. There has been no comment from the junta on this. The junta has lost control of a large part of the northern Shan state due to a coalition of armed groups and the People’s Defense Forces near the border with China. Rebel groups have also seized a regional military command here and taken control of the lucrative border trade crossing.
Earlier this week, junta chief Min Aung Hlaing warned civilians in areas occupied by ethnic armed groups to be prepared for a military counter-attack, state media reported. The junta also announced this week that it had declared the TNLA a terrorist organisation. People found supporting the TNLA, Arakan Army (AA), Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) may now face legal action.
