Coast Inspections Yield Results, Say Greek Authorities
Complaints about beaches and beachgoers in Greece have significantly decreased, according to the Real Estate Services of the Ministry of Economy. Inspections carried out through the MyCoast application and phone calls have identified violations at numerous businesses.
Mass Inspections and Violations Identified
Over 1,600 businesses have been inspected this year, with 450 of those occurring in the past week. The inspections are conducted in collaboration with the Greek Police and local Municipalities. Violations identified include:
Lack of hanging signs indicating excess space utilization through additional shade seats
Unauthorized constructions
* Unauthorized occupation of beach areas without a concession contract
Areas with Highest Complaints
The following areas have received the most complaints since the beginning of the summer:
- Chalcis: 1,930 complaints examined, 1,500 on 24 beaches.
- Eastern Attica: 1,579 complaints examined, 183 in the last 5 days.
- Ilia: 1,355 complaints investigated.
- Dodecanese: 799 complaints investigated.
- Cyclades: 552 complaints investigated.
- Corfu: 372 complaints examined.
- Chania: 264 complaints examined.
Positive Impact of New Regulations
The Ministry of Finance notes a significant improvement in beach compliance compared to previous years, attributing this to the implementation of new rules and legal frameworks.
