In “Polizeiruf 110: Unsterblich” Claudia Michelsen: partners, children, films”>Doreen Brasch has to solve the mysterious death of an influencer. Then the case takes an unexpected turn.

This Sunday’s “Polizeiruf 110: Unsterblich” takes Chief Detective Doreen Brasch (played by Claudia Michelsen) into digital spheres that she has very little use for. During their investigation into the death of a disgraced influencer, a number of human depths open up – and nothing is as it seems at first glance.

At the beginning of the new “police call” at prime shopping time, a young woman crashes through the glass roof of a shopping mall to her death. When Inspector Doreen Brasch arrives at the scene, a young woman gives her the first clue about the identity of the dead. Apparently this is the well-known influencer Aalisha Mansour (Hannah Gharib), who had recently fallen out of favor with her one and a half million followers after advertising an ineffective diet preparation on her Instagram channel.

In view of the merciless shitstorm that Aalisha was exposed to afterwards, everything initially looks like a suicide, but knockout drops found in the dead woman’s blood and cuts on her hands quickly collapse this theory. Further investigations reveal that the former internet star had also fallen out of favor with her Middle Eastern family, who viewed her social media fame, which was built on illusions, with critical eyes.

She attracted the greatest hatred from her brother Mahdi Mansour (Mo Issa), who saw her revealing appearance and her secret lesbian relationship with her roommate Leonie Jaspers (Katharina Stark) as a disgrace and therefore threatened her several times. While according to the cliché it appears to be an honor killing, the plot takes a bizarre and completely unexpected turn.

Is it worth turning on?

Yes. “Polizeiruf 110: Unsterblich” basically has everything an exciting Sunday evening crime thriller needs so as not to waste the viewer’s time. In addition to an original setting in the shady influencer milieu, excellent image staging and a spectacular dramaturgical highlight after the first third of the investigation, this case has a lot to offer.

Unfortunately, the intended thriller repeatedly becomes a tough and unauthentic affair due to stilted dialogues that primarily try to convey specific information to the audience and summarize back stories. This particularly applies to the depiction of the inner conflicts of the shattered Mansour family, where the characters are never deepened.

The “Police Call” provides a sad moment with a dedication at the end. Two actors involved died before the broadcast. On the one hand, this is Pablo Grant, who has played Günther Márquez, the chief detective responsible for background research, in the Magdeburg crime scene since 2020. In February 2024, at the age of 26, he unexpectedly succumbed to the consequences of a thrombosis. His colleague Hendrik Arnst had a much longer life when he died in January at the age of 73. In “Polizeiruf 110: Unsterblich” he played the supporting role of a retirement home resident.
