Vidya was being treated at the Trichy Government Hospital and a private hospital last week after three mysterious persons allegedly poured poison in her mouth. Vidya died tragically yesterday without any treatment effect. Bell police have registered a case against the three men involved in the murder.

Her family jumped into the fray along with their relatives and friends, claiming that police had not yet arrested all three culprits involved in the Vidya murder case. More than a hundred villagers from Nochchivayal Puthur village and the hill temple area gathered with them and engaged in a sudden road blockade on the Trichy Tanjore National Highway.

Informed Thiruverumbur DSP Jayaseelan and police arrived at the scene and held talks with the public. As no social solution was reached in the talks, the public continued to engage in road blockades. Subsequently, the police beat up and dispersed the crowd. Some civilians were injured. As a result, the traffic on the Trichy-Tanjai road was disrupted for more than an hour, resulting in a long queue of vehicles on both sides of the Trichy-Tanjai road.

The parents of the teenager, who claimed that the police inspector had behaved substandard during the beating, reprimanded the police and started a protest again at the door. Revenue officials then arrived at the scene and spoke with the public and the parents of the murdered woman.

The victim’s family should be given relief of Rs 25 lakh and the government should immediately provide employment to one of his family members. We will buy Vidya Lakshmi’s body only if we fulfill the demands, including that the novelist who spoke obscenely during the protest should take action against Inspector Vetrivel. If not, the families of the victims and protesters say the struggle will continue until then.
