Former NFL Player Missing, Posting on Social Media from Mexico, Police Investigating

Maywood, Illinois – Sergio Brown, a former NFL player who local police say is missing, appears to be posting on social media from Mexico. Brown, 35, who played as a safety for seven seasons with the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills, recently posted a rambling message on Instagram stories.

In the Instagram story, Brown talked about the FBI and Maywood police. Hours later, he posted another Instagram story showing his location as Sydney, Australia, featuring characters from the movie Finding Nemo. Maywood police have stated that they are aware of the social media videos and are currently investigating their authenticity.

This incident follows the discovery of Sergio’s mother, 73-year-old Myrtle Brown, dead by a creek behind her home on Saturday. Family members had reported Sergio and Myrtle missing prior to this tragic finding. Police have determined her death to be a homicide.

Residents of Maywood have reported that Sergio lived with his mother and would often take walks in the neighborhood. While Sergio has not been named a suspect in the homicide investigation, his whereabouts and involvement remain unknown.

On Tuesday, Sergio’s brother, Nick, briefly stopped by the family home, expressing how wonderful their mother was. Friends and family are coming to terms with the loss and expressing their shock over the situation.

Maywood police are urging anyone with information regarding Sergio Brown’s disappearance or the death of his mother to come forward. They have requested that the public contact Maywood Police Investigations’ Dennis Diaz at 708-368-4131 or reach out to the Maywood Police Department’s anonymous tip line at 708-450-1787.
