Mysterious Light Phenomenon Spreads Over Småland’s Sävsjö

During Friday evening, residents of Sävsjö in Småland were treated to a rare and fascinating light phenomenon that illuminated the night sky for a few minutes. Jesper Andersson, 19, was fortunate enough to capture the spectacle on film and described it as “very cool.”

The phenomenon, which spread over the entire town of Sävsjö, caught the attention of many residents, with Jesper describing it as a “cozy light” that appeared to stretch from top to bottom, lighting up the entire block.

“It looked very strange, the sky lit up. I was probably lucky to manage to take the picture when it was strongest,” Jesper said.

The phenomenon was not limited to Sävsjö, as it was also seen in the nearby city of Jönköping. Speculation about the cause of the phenomenon ranged from stars to more complex atmospheric phenomena.

“In Sävsjö it was 15 degrees below zero on Friday. Now I may sound like a stupid blonde, but maybe it could have been the stars? I actually don’t know,” Jesper remarked.

However, the mysterious light aligns with a known phenomenon called light pillars, which occur when the sun or moon shines on ice crystals in the atmosphere. The color of the light pillar may vary based on the artificial light that the pillar of light has as a source.

“It was like that all over the area. Very cool, I must say,” Jesper added.

The appearance of the light phenomenon has sparked intrigue and curiosity among residents of Sävsjö and Jönköping, adding a touch of magic to the winter night. With the stunning images captured by Jesper, the mysterious light phenomenon will certainly be a topic of conversation for days to come.
