N. Chandrasekaran has been given a five-year extension as Chairman of the Tata Group. Chandrasekaran was appointed Chairman of Tata Sons following the expulsion of Cyrus Mystery in 2017.

The Tata Sons executive committee met yesterday (February 11) to mark the end of his five-year term. At this meeting, it was decided to extend the tenure of Chandrasekaran for another 5 years.

Who is this Chandrasekaran?

Nadarajan Chandrasekaran alias N. Chandrasekaran was born in 1963 in Mohanur in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu. Chandrasekaran studied at a government school and later completed his bachelor’s degree at the Coimbatore Institute of Technology.

He later completed his MCA postgraduate degree from Trichy REC College. He subsequently completed his management studies at IIM Lucknow. Joined TCS in 1987 as a trainee. He then continued to hold various positions in the Tata Group for 30 years.

Chandrasekaran has been named the most trusted employee of Tata. It was during his tenure that Tata Group acquired Air India. Chandrasekaran is credited with contributing to Tata’s growth in a number of sectors, from automobiles to aviation.

On January 26, the Central Government released the list of recipients of the Padma Awards. It was announced that Chandrasekaran will be given the Padma Bhushan award.
