An echelon of the Ioannina Sectoral Committee of the KKE, led by MP Nikos Exarchos, met with the board of directors of the Fire Brigade Employees Union of the Region of Epirus.
The member of parliament of Ioannina pointed out that we are just before the fire season and all the causes and negative factors that in previous years contributed to the occurrence and spread of catastrophic fires remain. Among other things, he spoke of almost non-existent prevention and fire protection measures, shortages in means, personnel, infrastructure and funding of the competent services and the Forestry Service, while he emphasized that the unscientific and destructive separation of prevention from extinguishing remains, with the burden falling exclusively in repression.
On the part of the Epirus District Fire Brigade Employees’ Union, references were made to the lack of personnel both in Epirus and in general, and to the issue of transfers to other areas to cover the gaps, while their concern was expressed about a possible increase in transfers over and above the 48 years.
For the issues of seasonal firefighters, N. Exarchos was in favor of a single employment relationship, supporting the permanentization of all firefighters and recruitment in the future for permanent positions with full operational utilization and full labor rights.
The KKE delegation emphasized that the KKE is next to the firefighters not only in their demands but also in the fires, it is next to the firefighters and supports their just problems and will promote them inside and outside the parliament.
At the end of the meeting, a discussion was held with the shift that was at the central fire station.
