As one of the most famous and recognizable athletes on the planet, LeBron James’ influence stretched far beyond the world of basketball. As a businessman, cultural icon and movie star, he is a man of many ventures, and his name is stamped on all kinds of different projects. On Friday, he found himself in the news again – this time, for being the newest addition to the exciting new fighting game, ‘MultiVersus’. The Los Angeles Lakers star – or at least, his character in the movie Space Jam: A New Legacy, will be one of the characters in the new smash game MultiVersus, which feels just like Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. but with characters from all the franchises, and there are so many.
The entertainment giant plucks iconic characters from its popular franchises to create one of the most anticipated games of the year, MultiVersus. So far, the developer has added sixteen characters, including the latest addition of the Iron Giant. New playable characters will continue to land in the game as the official release date approaches.
The game is currently in advanced beta, and LeBron’s character has already joined characters such as Batman, Harley Quinn, Steven Universe and more. LeBron is classified as a Bruiser character, which means he will be slower, but tougher, than the other character types. His weapon of choice is, naturally, a basketball, which he will use in abundance with devastating slam balls. One of the unlockable skins appears to be his cowboy from Space Jam.
LeBron will be joined shortly after by Rick and Morty, who, like Tom and Jerry, will probably play as a united duo. We haven’t seen footage of Rick and Morty yet, but they’re certainly as at home in MultiVersus as any character. The objects that Rick’s character will use are, Rick’s portal gun, and even Mr. Meeseeks is already an “item” that can be used in the game. Rick and Morty will join at the beginning of the first season (MultiVersus is currently in “Preseason” until August 8). The first season will start on August 9.
