Against the background of the report that Religious Zionist Chairman Smotrich and the ultra-Orthodox factions are seeking to cancel the grandson clause in the Law of Return, outgoing Diaspora Minister Nachman Shai (Labor) is attacking.

“The proposal to revoke the Third Generation Law of Return is ridiculous and harmful. This is an ugly attempt to harm their right to come to the State of Israel and live in it. The creative house of Smotritz and the ultra-Orthodox parties continues to cause damage.”

“The very proposal, on the day the world commemorates Kristallnacht, indicates a fundamental lack of understanding of the relationship between Israel and the Jewish people in the Diaspora. The Law of Return is one of the cornerstones of the State of Israel, the state of the Jewish people. An evil spirit that blows through the corridors of the future government and must be stopped immediately.”

Stop the assimilation?

As mentioned last night (Tuesday), it was reported that the chairman of Religious Zionism, Bezalel Smotrich, and the ultra-orthodox parties, are demanding that Prime Minister-designate Binyamin Netanyahu in the coalition negotiations change the Law of Return and cancel the grandson clause, which states that even a person who is a third generation Jew can immigrate to Israel.

As we know, many of the people who are third generation are non-Jews according to Halacha, which is why the religious and ultra-Orthodox parties are working to change the law.
