BOLZANO. Nothing more it means “nothing more”. Verena Trenner e Marco Brecelj they thought of that name almost 26 years ago. The day? October 31, 1998. “No menus too Tyrolean, let’s add a bit of worldliness”, they said to themselves, those who had already cut their teeth with another historic venue of the alternative scene in Bolzano, the Bar Urban in via San Quirino.
Now, talking to the regulars, for a few days there has been fear that something might change: “I heard that Verena would like to leave. I understand them, but what’s going on here?” In the meantime, she comes and goes between the counter and the tables, enters and exits the now historic venue in Piazza Erbe 43, as if nothing had happened.
They say you sold… “Be careful, these are delicate moments. For now I’m keeping everything to myself,” she says. And with Marco. A duo, theirs, who have set up an intercultural space in the full sense, that is, in the sense that each food brings with it a different horizon, not always linked to these places. The rumors of a sale of the business are insistent, so insistent that Verena lets something slip. “The customers, who are also friends, don’t worry.
Whatever happens and whatever happens, Nadamas will be in the hands of young people. And they are very enthusiastic young people: the spirit will remain the same”, he announces. While waiting for the (probable) official announcement of the news, there is therefore an unprecedented scenario being configured for Nadamas: whether it is another duo, or more young people, there will still be someone who intends to take care of a place that has been able to offer a precise identity to the Bolzano nightlife square, certainly capable of also constituting an intergenerational bridge, observing who sits at the tables in the evening or curls up between the entrance and the outdoor area among the stalls of the Herb Market. “It is a presence that has also marked our commercial history”, comments Mirco Benetello, who directs the Bolzano Confesercenti.
“You get tired of doing this job, especially doing it for almost three decades and they, Verena and Marco, probably wanted to take on another adventure…”, says in turn a historic manager of a bar in Piazza Walther. Maybe they’ll say it in a bit. In the meantime, Nadamas is teeming with customers. The two souls of the place had a dream, many years ago: to open one in Greece. Possibly on one of the many islands of the Aegean. They thought about it for a while but then, due to a series of coincidences, the opportunity arose first at Urban (which no longer exists), and then at Piazza Erbe. In a context, and this certainly had an impact, that will have been able to intercept the free characters of Marco and Verena, given that among the squares of Bolzano, this market square is perhaps the least “set up”, very youthful, attracted by music (some neighbors say: too attracted…) and not necessarily looking for traditional foods. Among other things, the venue has also been the setting for street concerts, open-air concerts, small events and even jazz evenings.
And now another chapter in this story is about to open.
