The candidate for participation in the presidential elections in Russia, Boris Nadezhdin, announced today that the Supreme Court rejected his second appeal against the refusal to register his candidacy for the vote in March, in which Vladimir Putin should be re-elected for a new term, reported France Press

“The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation rejected my appeal to challenge the refusal to register,” Nadezhdin wrote on social media, adding that he would contest this decision.

On February 8, the Central Election Commission of Russia refused to register Nadezhdin for the elections because of the high percentage of invalid signatures in the submitted lists with almost 105 thousand signatures, TASS reported. Based on the results of the verification of a sample of 60 thousand signatures, 9147 of them were declared invalid. In order for registration to be allowed, the share of invalid signatures must not exceed 5 percent, BTA reports.

A week ago, Nadezhdin lost his first appeal against the decision of the electoral authorities to ban him from participating in the presidential elections.

At the forefront of Boris Nadezhdin’s election campaign was his call for an end to the conflict in Ukraine, and his exclusion from the race shows that the authorities will not tolerate any open opposition to the Kremlin’s actions.
