Nadia Calviño “will suffer” a quadruple increase in her remuneration when she assumes the presidency of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in 2024, according to her recent election. The current first vice president and Minister of Economy, Commerce and Business of Spain has achieved the necessary support from community partners, securing 60% of the bank’s capital and the support of at least 18 Member States of the European Union (EU). This new role carries an annual salary of approximately 381,398 euros, equivalent to 30,000 euros per month during her six-year term, compared to the 84,600 euros per year she received as vice president and minister of the Spanish Government.

It should be noted that this compensation equals the salary of the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in accordance with a rule established in 1958. In addition to the salary, Calviño will also enjoy additional benefits, such as per diem and retirement pension, features of senior officials of the European Union. Born on October 3, 1968 in La Coruña, Spain, Calviño, with a degree in Economic Sciences and Law, will leave her current position in the Government to take on the challenge of leading the EIB, a crucial institution for the European economy, in charge of supporting projects that promote regional development and business modernization.
