A couple of years ago, the star couple of Indian South cinema, Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu got divorced. Telangana’s Forest and Environment Minister Konda Surekha is in trouble for making sarcastic comments about the divorce of the former couple.
Last Tuesday, the minister claimed – ‘There was a deep political conspiracy behind the separation of Samantha and Naga. The then minister KT Rama Rao was behind this plot.’ Samantha Ruth Prabhu, her ex-husband Naga Chaitanya and her ex-father-in-law Nagarjuna Akkineni were furious after this statement came to light.
Nagarjuna Akkineni released a statement yesterday afternoon. He said, ‘I strongly condemn the comments of honorable minister Konda Surekha. Don’t use the lives of movie stars away from politics to criticize your opponents. Please respect the privacy of others.’
Requesting Minister Konda, Nagarjuna Akkineni said, ‘As a woman from a position of responsibility, your comments and accusations against my family are completely false and irrelevant. I request you to withdraw your statement.’
Naga Chaitanya released a statement on his social media controversy late on Wednesday night. The hero said, ‘One of the most painful and unfortunate decisions in life is the decision of separation. After much deliberation, my ex-wife and I came to a compromise. It was a peaceful decision. Our goals in life were different. We are adults. Respecting each other, we have decided to move forward.’
Calling Minister Konda Surekha’s allegations false, Naga Chaitanya said, ‘There have been various baseless, ridiculous gossips about our divorce. I remained silent out of deep respect for my ex-wife and her family. But now Minister Konda Surekha has complained; Which is not only false, but ridiculous and unacceptable.’
Samantha Ruth Prabhu joined after Naga Chaitanya protested. Following her lead, Samantha also released a statement on social media. The actress said, ‘My divorce is a personal matter. I request that you (Konda Surekha) refrain from practicing about it. We prefer to keep these things secret.’
The protest of Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya and Samantha also caught the attention of Minister Konda Surekha. He retracted his statement in the face of protest. In a post on microblogging site X (Twitter), the minister wrote — ‘I withdraw my statement unconditionally.’
