The lawyers of Jürgen Elsässer’s Compact Magazin GmbH published the reasons for the ban uncensored. Employees were outed with their real names. One spoke of an attack on Robert Habeck.

The lawyers of the “Compact” magazine are putting “Compact” employees in a tight spot: The lawyers have published the original justification for the ban by Interior Minister Nancy Faeser – without any redactions. Employees in the background and the real names behind pseudonyms are being passed on. The document also shows that an AfD local politician works at “Compact” as a “jack of all trades”, owns a gun and has spoken to company boss Jürgen Elsässer about the idea of an attack with potentially fatal consequences on the Green Economics Minister Robert Habeck.

In the 79-page document, the ÖS II 3 department (Terrorism/Extremism right/left; Politically motivated crime) of the Interior Ministry has collected a lot of content that is no secret at all. Passages from articles in “Compact”, collections of pictures and front pages with octopuses or Jews. Often it is also the heads of politicians that are constructed as enemy images. Much of the content is conspiracy-ideological.

The security authorities also present the structure behind “Compact”. This is not initially explosive: the shareholder relationships and top management of the companies can be found publicly in commercial register documents. A lot was also known about the boss Jürgen Elsässer, his wife Stephanie and the boss of CompactTV, Paul Klemm, who emerged from the “Identitarian Movement”.

But the copy distributed by the lawyers goes further: the sales manager and a male and female employee who have power of attorney over the account are listed by name. They themselves are not in the public eye.

The lawyers’ document with the unredacted documents also makes it public that employees in the editorial department are working under false names: the alias names have so far concealed the extent to which “Compact” employees are connected to the NPD, which has since been renamed “Die Heimat”.

The editor-in-chief is Daniell Pföhringer, whose real name is Thorsten Thomsen, and he was the press spokesman for the NPD faction in Saxony until 2014. A police search was carried out at his home in Pirna this week. Arne Schimmer was a member of the NPD faction at the time and a member of the state parliament. Schimmer is an “employee who can be attributed to ‘Compact'” – under the name Sven Reuth, as the BMI’s justification states. Schimmer had also already written for Götz Kubitschek’s “Sezession” under a pseudonym. His identity was not to be revealed there, the “taz” researched.

The lawyers’ paper also reveals that Oliver Niedrich is another employee, a “Heimat” official and was deputy state chairman of the NPD Berlin at least in 2021. On a “Heimat” page for recruiting members, he is presented as a multi-talented person responsible for the material service in the Berlin party headquarters. He “continually supplies our activists and interested parties with new print media”, but also manages the Berlin website.

His role at “Compact” is not clear from the reason for the ban. A photo was already known showing him as a steward on the “The Blue Wave” stage tour in support of the AfD. Elsässer had called for 91,000 euros to be donated to “Compact”. This circumstance presumably also led to the account being closed.

From the perspective of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the magazine and its creators are successful and have an impact – and that is why they are so dangerous.

Elsässer will use the quote at a gala in 2023 for donors and silent partners: “We simply want to overthrow the system.” The goal is “the overthrow of the regime.” Elsässer does not outline the new system. However, the articles and statements show “that it is intended to be a system that disregards the human dignity of people with a migration background as well as of Jews.”

To achieve his goal, Elsässer wants to use print and online texts, TV reports, events and speeches at public events to convey anti-constitutional goals to members of the association and to society at large. The number of hits has increased considerably. With such constant bombardment, “ultimately a continuous creation of enemies of the constitution” occurs.

Evidence of the developments in the immediate environment is a man who is apparently Elsässer’s “girl for everything” and who carries out janitorial work and small jobs. His name can be read in the unredacted report. This accuses an AfD local politician from near Elsässer’s home in Falkensee of having spoken about murder fantasies against Green politician Robert Habeck as a gun owner.
