Namma Uru witnessed a mix of vibrant celebrations and important precautionary measures during this year’s Ganesha Chaturthi festival. From unique and creative idols to dengue prevention training sessions, the city came alive with fervor and unity.

The Vellore Corporation office hosted a training meeting for the dengue prevention staff, led by Sujata Anandakumar, addressing the rising concern of dengue in the region. Key officials, including the Deputy Commissioner, Zonal Committee Chairman, Councilors, Health Officers, and Public Health Officers, actively participated in the session, aiming to devise effective strategies for combatting the disease.

In another development, the Madurai District Office received applications from individuals who had not received money from the Artist Women’s Entitlement Scheme. The district office has been proactively addressing this issue and ensuring that individuals receive their entitlements promptly.

Adding color and enthusiasm to the festive spirit, various neighborhoods in Vellore, including Rangapuram and Thotapalayam, adorned their surroundings with innovative Ganesha idols. Rangapuram saw Ganesha seated on a ship, while Thotapalayam featured idols of Lord Rama, Lakshmanan, and Hanuman. The Vellore District Collector’s office showcased a beautiful display of Ayodhya, depicting Lord Rama’s connection with Lord Vinayagar, further enhancing the festivities.

Notably, Vellore Old Town area showcased a unique Ganesha idol sitting on a gorilla, showcasing the artistic creativity and diversity of the city. Maharaja Ganapati graced Perumal Temple Street in Arasamarapet, while Kosappettai area also featured an intricately designed Ganesha idol.

Away from the celebrations, food security officials conducted raids and seized non-vegetarian food on the Madurai bypass road, ensuring compliance with regulations and maintaining hygiene standards.

Tragically, a couple lost their lives due to smoke suffocation in a brick kiln in the Kanyambadi area of Vellore district, highlighting the need for improved safety measures and vigilance in industrial settings.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall brought a different kind of challenge to the motorists on the Salem Meiyanur road, as they navigated through drenched streets. As the city experienced rainfall, residents adapted to the weather conditions and exercised caution while traveling.

In Coimbatore, some individuals chose to melt the idols consecrated on the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi in the Singhanallur Pond, a practice that is aimed at ensuring environmental sustainability and reducing pollution.

Similarly, in Salem, Ganesha idols worshiped by the residents were melted in Mookaneri lake, maintaining the tradition of immersion while also preserving the ecosystem.

Lastly, Chennai witnessed unique Ganesha idols, including one in the shape of Chandrayaan, capturing the essence of the city’s innovation and progressive mindset. Various idols were placed across Chennai, adding charm to the festive atmosphere.

As the city embraced the festivities, it also recognized the importance of raising awareness about public health, safety, and environmental sustainability. These initiatives showcased the unity and spirit of the residents of Namma Uru (our city).
